The Whistler!

Yunie's so fun!

Why don't we hear more about the Latin guys on our team? I'm sure they're just as interesting as everyone else, and I swear, if I hear "Parkview" one more time, I'm going to scream a little.

Also Jerome? SHUT IT. I'm going to leave, before I publicly call him a name I regret...

Baby pink

I know I give him a hard time about the Ed Hardy-looking clothes (he just doesn't seem tough enough to wear skulls and crap), but this? This is brilliant. Perfectly matched, complements his skin tone, buttons in the right places. It's great. I love it.

That said, he looks a little bit pregnant. Does Ashley know about this, Brian? :D

Hat tip to Leah for the pic!

"Well played"

Just listen to the audio; the video is irrelevant:

Regarding the last few seconds, I can't believe someone wrote in and asked about that! HA HA! Whoever you are, mystery emailer, I'd like to be your friend.

(If you don't 'get it', I'm probably not the one who should explain it to you. Heh.)

Game Day Pictures: Braves vs. Marlins 8-28-08

This was the view from section 203! It was a fantastic place from which to watch the game -- and it was Jimmy Buffett night, so there were some fantastic costumes around the park too. :D The guys' jumbotron pics were the best; let's start with some of those:

Okay, kids, let's backtrack to BP. I took far too many pictures of my boyfriend Josh -- if I don't stop, Baby and MattE and Charlie and Pete are going to get jealous. Well, maybe not Pete. I'm pretty sure he knows my face, even if he doesn't know who I am, because he sees me taking BP pics from the same spot, usually at least once per homestand. (I'm not a stalker, Pete! I just love baseball / watching hot men play baseball!)

Speaking of Pete, he looks like some sort of alien with his head shaved. I am not a fan of this. I'd love to know what his lady thinks. ;)

Other unusual things:

- Pete drop-kicked Buddy's glove. Awesome.

- Chipper taking fielding practice. I don't remember ever seeing this before.

- Blaine jokingly shoving Eddie Perez repeatedly as they went to the bullpen. (Thanks to Lizziebeth for that pic!)

- JJ dancing (maybe that's not unusual, ha ha)

- JJ entertaining his friends. Ruben hops in and does a nice little slide-step.

- Baby took BP without any sort of hat or helmet on. I love seeing his little cottontop running around without a hat, but is that safe?

Game time!

- Pre-game stretching pic 1 ~ pic 2 ~ pic 3 ~ pic 4 ~ pic 5

- I snuck some pics during the national anthem. (shhh!) pic 1 ~ pic 2 ~ pic 3

- Josh signing autographs

- Charlie and Clint head in from the bullpen

- Charlie on the mound pic 1 ~ pic 2 ~ pic 3

- "Daaaaaaad, I don't want to hit anymore!"

- BJones comes up to bat to Kanye West's Stronger.

- Hanging out on the top step pic 1 ~ pic 2 ~ pic 3

- Kelly brought Martin's things out, but not Josh's. Aww, sad.

- Mmmm...Gonzo...

OK, some fun things:

- A pic of Josh's bum, for J.H. who's "here for the butts". ;)

- Baby's home run celebration

- Spotted some TV personalities: Our Katy Temple in the dugout during BP and Boog up in the booth. It's a Krang-like picture, only Boog's not evil and doesn't have a henchman named Shredder. Heh.

And some interesting fan shots:

- An adorable kid, who sat next to us with his guardian, who was eating a bag of melted Sugar Babies as if it was a candy bar.

- The Indian (an unofficial Turner Field mascot, of sorts), hitting on "Hope", one of the Tomahawk Team. She seems receptive.

- Someone famous-looking, with his handler.

- A girl wearing a Bobby Cox shirt.

- Old dudes, one with his foot propped up.

- A guy with a rat tail. A RAT TAIL.

Braves win! Baby gets interviewed by OKT and looks super cute on the jumbotron.

And, the evening ends with the sprinklers turning on. Good times.

(Full album here, with many, MANY more pictures. Enjoy!)

Fun dugout videos from Wednesday!

Pete and Huddy having fun:

And Clint and Josh sitting together:

You know, at first glance, these two look a lot alike. If you care to tell the difference, Josh is blonde, thin, and super-fast. Clint has hair that can look red or brown, depending on the camera / video, he's built a bit sturdier (like most catchers), and he looks a little more mature than Josh. Josh is older, though! I heart them both -- Southern boys are a little bit awesome. :)

Josh is back!!

Several sources are reporting that one of our favorite boyfriends has rejoined the team -- welcome back, Josh!!

For my Christian readers: Anderson sets sights on God first, big leagues second

Ah, I like this kid. :)

Mark Kotsay traded to Boston

There's nothing on the Braves website yet, but Yahoo is reporting...

NEW YORK – The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Mark Kotsay from the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night pending a physical, according to a baseball source with knowledge of the deal. The Braves will receive a minor-league pitcher in return if the pitcher passes a physical.
The article does note that the deal is not official, but it sounds done to me, considering the reports from Ken Rosenthal and others.

Good luck, Kots. It was nice having you here. :)

--------------

12:45pm ETA:

ESPN.com says we get a single-A, 20-year-old outfielder named Luis Sumoza for Kots. Is that an even trade? Seriously??

Maybe we are "rebuilding"...

Very cool!

Check this out! A 9-year-old who throws 40mph and Babe Ruth's World War I draft card:

Babe Ruth
Babe Ruth Back

A note to Charlie Morton

Dear Charlie,

As I said earlier today, I'm not very happy about that mlb.com article. However, there are some valid points there, like this one:

"There comes a time when you keep getting knocked down to the mat that you have to start fighting back," McDowell said.
So yes, you need a little more confidence. You're tired of hearing that by now, I'm sure. Don't fret over it -- it will come with time, with more run support, with more concentration. You're in an organization with a history of great pitchers. It will happen for you.

I'm not usually big on stats, but let's compare your year so far with two other Braves, future HOFers Smoltzie and Glav. I'm sure they've both told you how bad they sucked their rookie year, but do you really know how badly they sucked?

(Aside to those reading who don't follow complicated statistics: Won-Loss records are more indicative of a team's performance than a pitcher's performance, so we'll look at adjusted ERA (aka ERA+) and WHIP as well. For those of you who aren't familiar with ERA+ and WHIP, you can read up through those links. Basically, an ERA+ of 100 is average; below 100 is "below average". WHIP stands for walks + hits per inning pitched; below 1.0 is going to be superior to others in the league.)

In Smoltz's rookie year, he went 2-7 with an ERA+ of 67 and a 1.672 WHIP.

In Glavine's rookie year, he went 2-4 with an ERA+ of 78 and a 1.748 WHIP. In Tommy's second year, he went 7-17 with an ERA+ of 80 and a 1.352 WHIP.

So far this year, babe, your line looks like this: 3-8 with an ERA+ of 64 and a WHIP of 1.642.

Looks to me like you're in line to be a hall of famer too. :) The readers here and I have full confidence in you, and we know you'll be just fine. It's just first-year jitters.

Love,
Lauren

PS -- If you ever need a hug, I have an ever-growing list of women who will accomodate such a request. ;)

Short Homestand, but good times...

As Lizziebeth so astutely observed, it looks like the Huddy bobblehead does have wrist tattoos -- or at least, smudges of ink where tattoos would be on the real guy. Can you imagine the Pete Moylan bobblehead? They'd have it wearing long sleeves so they wouldn't have to draw the tats!

Also, check out the thickness of Huddy's legs -- they're thicker than the ones on Baby's bobblehead! Maybe it's the white-pant illusion...

Anyway, check out the other goodies for the mid-week games this week:

I'll be there on Thursday to see Charlie. Hopefully having his weaknesses splashed in the media won't beat him down too much. (Disclaimer: Articles written by Bowman should be read carefully to separate fact from opinion. He does not write from the POV of an impartial observer, as I think he should -- his personal opinion taints every article he writes, and sometimes his own predictions are mixed in with quotes from Braves management, when in fact they're pure speculation on his part...and have been very wrong in the past.)

Love you, Charlie! *hug*

Home Grown Hero: Clint!

I heart Clint. I'm really excited to see if he'll be the full-time backup catcher next year (but hey, if he gets a starting job elsewhere, I can't wish him anything but the best). Anyway, check out the SS video they aired in yesterday's pre-game:

---------------------

Also from the game:

If you'd told me a few years ago that I'd see Joe Simpson with a Syndrome wig -- heck, if you'd told me that last week -- I would have laughed in your face. They must be so bored up there.

Lastly, don't crash, Baby!

No comment on LaRussa helping to catch him. Heh heh. I do love Martin Prado slamming into Baby's backside. Couldn't resist, could ya, Martin? ;)

Game Day Pictures: Braves @ Cardinals 8-22-08

Braves fan Jan in St. Louis was gracious enough to share her pics from Friday night's game. Her account of the autograph session follows the pics. Thanks, Jan! :) :)

My brother and I got there before the gates opened and got a great place to stand to watch batting practice. Jeff Francoeur was the first to come over to sign. He signed for about 15 minutes, walking from the corner of the dugout where we were all the way down the 3rd base line. I was impressed at that if nothing else that night. I had Francoeur sign an 8x10 pic I have of him and my brother got his autograph on a baseball. Mike Gonzalez also came by to sign, where I had an 8x10 of him and he added his sig to my brother's ball. Buddy Carlyle and Ruben Gotay also came over to sign, but I had nothing for them, so my brother just had them add their sigs to the ball as well. Brian McCann, Bobby Cox, Jair Jurrjens, Clint Sammons, and Vladimir Nunez also were signing, but we couldn't get to them. I was impressed how great they were with their fans. Gonzalez, Gotay, and Francoeur were very talkative with the fans and very funny. Carlyle, on the other hand, didn't say a single word.

I met Javy Lopez!

I can now die a happy girl. :D

The Album: Click here. All the pictures I took are so out of focus because I couldn't control my shaking hand. I have never been this nervous to meet someone in my life, but it was worth it!

The Story:

Lizziebeth and I decided yesterday afternoon that we'd make the drive up. My friend's bridal shower was later than I thought, and I figured if we were in line early, I could get to both. We were the very first ones to get there at 9:15 this morning, up in freakin' CUMMING, GA. It is... 38 miles from me, I think? Well, the signing was from 11-1, and considering his popularity when he played here, I thought we'd be in line for a while. (Lizziebeth brought camp chairs and snacks!)

We saw a couple of women waving at us from the building, so we went over and talked to the manager for a minute. He verified that yes, Javy was going to be there...and since there was no line, we left to get some super-cheap gas at the nearby RaceTrac. When we came back, only one other person was there!

We sat in the car until 10:15 or so. More people were showing up then, so we went in and asked to use the facilities. There were about 20 people in line by that time, so we had to wait outside instead of inside. My hair whipped around pretty good -- it wasn't as pretty as it can be. :(

Javy drove up in a new silver Lincoln MKX. All I could see was his smile; it doesn't take much to recognize him!

We met Susan (what's up!) and her sister Laura -- they had an awesome picture of Javy and their family from a long time ago. (They were guessing '93 or '94?) Javy stared at their picture for a long time, and commented, "I feel old!" Aww, but you're prettier than ever!!

The signs outside said he wouldn't take pictures, but we noticed he would if someone asked! He signed my baseball metal sign (above), and said it was really cool. He asked if I bought it just for this (the autograph session, I guess), and I said no, I've had it for a couple of years. He then asked if I wanted him to sign small, so other people could sign it, and I think I scared him when I said, "No, sign it as large as you want!"

He looked up and I said, "You've been my favorite for a long time." I didn't say it in a creepy way, but I was trying not to collapse into giggles. I think he sensed that, because he kinda laughed and did sign it big! Then I asked if I could have a picture, and he said "of course!" Eeeeeeeee! :D

His face was SO CLOSE to mine, I couldn't breathe! I thanked him, and we went outside, and my hands were shaking worse than ever. I turned into such a fangirl; I'm embarrassed. I didn't do this with BMac or Frenchy! But they're not Javy, you see. ;)

Anyway, he was a doll! So, so sweet, and obviously, SO HOT. The end!

PS -- I tried to get a couple of pics of the tattoo wedding ring, but I was quite out of focus. Worst pictures ever!

Taking suggestions from us little people

During last night's broadcast, Joe & Boog encouraged us to email some "Top 5" ideas to them for those two to discuss on the air. (They don't really want to talk about how the Braves are playing either...)

So here's my email:

And one of my suggestions made it on air!

Woo!! Very cool. :D

In other video news from last night, what was up with Jo-Jo handing Frenchy a bag of cotton candy? Think that was from a fan? ;)

Yay for successful surgery!

NEW YORK -- If Tom Glavine opts to pitch again next year, he'll have the opportunity to do so with a surgically repaired elbow and shoulder.

While repairing the affected flexor tendon in Glavine's left elbow on Thursday, Dr. James Andrews also provided some minor cleanup to some damaged tissue around the 42-year-old pitcher's left labrum.

Throughout a majority of his career, Glavine has pitched through shoulder discomfort. Thus, when it was determined that he'd need to have his elbow repaired, he asked Andrews also to fix his shoulder.

"We were pleased by the report that there was not a significant injury to the elbow or shoulder that would prevent Tom from pitching in the future," Braves general manager Frank Wren said.

No word on if the Braves will offer him a contract, but my nostalgic side hopes they will. I'd like to see Tommy's farewell tour, and I hope this season wasn't it.

Tender whispers

Jennifer: JJ is so cute
Lauren: it's not even a particularly gay picture!
Jennifer: something about the light between them is gay
Lauren: <3

Back from injury

MLB.com has a couple of video interviews with Kelly Johnson and Mike Hampton about battling back from season-ending injuries. I especially liked Kelly's interview; his honesty is refreshing. (Sometimes I think we get a lot of B.S. in interviews, because the player wants to be seen in the right light.)

While I was there, I also saw this pre-series interview that features Kots and Frenchy, along with the Mets' David Wright. I know he's a Met, and I'm fundamentally supposed to hate him, but I just can't. He's so cute!

Good news, bad news

Good news!

Glavine will have tendon surgery, not ligament surgery. Only a 4-5 month recovery, is willing to pitch next year (but only for the Braves). Woo!

MattE's knee does NOT need surgery and Braves Live said he will rejoin the team on the way to St. Louis this weekend. Woo! Another four weeks of conditioning, though...

JBennett's mouth is full of seeds, not tobacco (according to last night's game). WOO!

Bad News :(

Mama Kotchman is very ill, and Casey is on bereavement leave for at least 3 days. The Braves aren't officially saying what's going on, but an insider told me it was a "cardiac event". Get well soon!

Fun with Frenchy and an interview with Bobby

Hat tip to Dinged Corners for this awesome card image!
This is the best. card. ever. They even got the wonky eye right!
He looks like an ad for hamburgers in the 1950s. :D

You may have seen this clip in the AJC already, but if not, it's nice to know Mr. F's still getting some good press. I still cheer for him -- he really *does* seem to care what the fans think -- and this story is a good one.

FRANCOEUR OFF THE FIELD: And for a little perspective on the Jeff Francoeur you guys don't always see... When people tell you he's an upbeat person, despite the miserable season he's had, and he's a great community guy: this is what they're talking about.

Yesterday before the game we could see from the press box Jeff out of the field with a young man in a wheel chair. He took him out to right field to get a feel for what it must be like to stand in Jeff's shoes, and shortly thereafter, Francoeur ran alongside him as he took a spin around the bases in his wheelchair.

At first glance, I thought maybe it was a "Make a Wish" foundation thing that Francoeur had agreed to do. But I came to find out this morning, it was all-Jeff.

Francoeur said he'd met Joshua Kane in 2005 during his first roadtrip to Philadelphia. Kane was sitting near the Braves dugout and cheering for Jeff and the Braves. Francoeur saw him every time the team went to Philadelphia from then on. The last time the Braves were up there in late July, he gave Kane his phone number and invited him for an on-the-field visit to Atlanta.

That's what we saw on Saturday.

"It puts things back in perspective," said Francoeur, who at 24 is six months younger than Kane. "He'd be dying to hit .228 in the major leagues."

Francoeur got a kick - and a little scare - out of seeing Kane max out his electric wheelchair to 7 mph to go from first to third.

Good for him! I like hearing stories like this.

---------------------------------------------

"We haven't completely given up."

Bobby Cox gives a great interview to MLB.com here about our struggles this season and how the team plans to finish the year out. He always seems to bring up Pete Moylan first when talking about our injuries this year; that's pretty awesome that he sees Pete as such an integral part of the team's success. He also spends a bit talking about Jorge Campillo's success, and calls him our #2 guy. Considering #2 at the beginning of this season was Smoltzie, that's quite a career jump for Campy!

(Speaking of Campy, did you guys see him wearing the catcher's mask in the dugout last night?) :D

Batting Stance Guy + Meet Javy this weekend!

This guy is right on! Check out his video with batting stances for current and former Braves.

Hat Tip: Gene Garber for Prez. :)

----------------------------

I heard a commercial on the way home from the game yesterday -- you can meet former Braves catcher Javy Lopez at the Verizon Wireless store in Cumming, GA this Saturday 8/23/08, from 11am to 1pm. If my best friend's bridal shower wasn't at THAT EXACT TIME, I'd be there! Gee thanks, Holly. ;)

ETA: I heard the commercial again last night, and the address of the store is:

876 Buford Rd
Cumming, GA 30041
(678) 455-4041

Let us know if you go!

Game Day Pictures: Braves vs Giants 8-18-08

This is going to be a very abbreviated Game Day post. :) Best things first:

You can hear how surprised I was; I was on the phone, explaining why I was recording the ab work, and... hahahaha, that guy is really getting into it! He is fun; I wish I could find out who that was.

-------------------------------

Batting practice!

Notes:

- Charlie hung out with the ball boy in CF most of the time.
- Baby and KJ and Clint hung out together, and Frenchy kept his distance by staying on the other side of the field with Will Ohman. If McFrenchy acted friendly towards each other, I sure didn't notice. Wonder what's up there...
- KJ has gorgeous calves. I feel like I talk about that all the time, but they deserve it!
- Eddie Perez waved at me. There was no one else close to where I was sitting, and he was looking right at my face. If that was intentional, that was pretty cool! He's hilarious. (Also? We have the same birthday.) :)

-------------------------------

I know it was a 4:35 start time on a Monday, but I didn't expect the crowd to be so sparse. I went with a group from work and took this video during the 8th inning, when it was still pretty full (relatively speaking):

The official "paid" attendance was just over 18,000, but if there were over 10,000 there, I'd be shocked.

Also!! Our section was chosen as the Doubles for Double Cheeseburgers promotion, and Campy hit his double in the inning! We all got cards for a double cheeseburger value meal at McDonald's. I don't know if I'll eat mine, but here was our section on the Jumbotron:

Other crap I got:

Since work gave us $15 in Braves Bucks, I decided against spending it on overpriced food and drinks and got a new t-shirt instead. (The "front" view is my friend Jenna's tee -- with Chuck James' #36 on the back!). After the Braves bucks and the 30% off sale, my shirt was only $1.75. I'm so proud of that! :) The red thing is a rally flag that a random stadium employee gave me. Good times!

The game was so boring, I spent two whole minutes videoing Baby in the batter's circle. Booooooring. BORING! (Not you, Baby -- the game.)

Here is the full album of pictures. Inside you'll see some gay lumberjacks, Yunie, Baby, KJ, Clint (or, if you prefer the typo-nickname, "Cling"), Gregor, Ruben, Blaine, Jeff B, an empty stadium, Frenchy, Clint's bum, Omar Infante, far too many pics of Charlie, Chipper and Kots, Will, some clouds, Tim Lincecum, his wonky tooth situation, more empty stadium, the Atlanta skyline, a sticker on the armrest between two co-workers (who unknowingly dressed alike), Zito on the mound, Charlie's legs reclining from the bench, Clint with SmartWater again, Baby with his hat off, a guy getting escorted off the field after tumbling in over a foul ball, Martin's super-cute jumbotron pic, Baby toweling off in the dugout, and the stupid game of the day, Pict-O-Word. Enjoy!

We can't get enough of Charlie!

1. He's so sweet. You can tell he's still not used to the major-league level of media attention, but just give him time -- he'll be fine. :)

2. Charlie, try to stay out of trouble. I don't want to hear about the Big Boys corrupting you! Just try to stay as normal as possible.

3. Very sad news about MattE. We may have seen his last game in a Braves uniform, everyone. :( :(

Well this explains a lot!

I'm sure the move to Atlanta has been a shock. Anything (legal) we can do to help, Krotchman? We do want you to be happy here, since you'll be under club control for the next three full seasons...

I guess I won't miss Huddy as much if we keep seeing things like this...

Way to try to run like Baby while sitting on the bench, man. Heh. I love it.

Game Day Pictures: Braves vs Giants 8-15-08

Brilliant. The running, the beard, the strained neck, the tongue, the pants (for those of you who look at that sort of thing) ... it's the best gameday program cover ever, I think. Frenchy amuses me so.

My friend Shaun (the one that loves "The Big Puma") got some sweet dugout seats from work and even gave me the Diamond Preferred parking pass. Thanks, babe! As you'll see from the in-game pics, we were super-close to the field.

Batting practice was pretty boring...

Onto Giants BP... some pics of Zito and Lincecum for my girls: pic 1 ~ pic 2 ~ pic 3 ~ pic 4 ~ pic 5 And one of just Zito, stretching.

Done with BP, I went to get my free soda (just sign up to be a designated driver!) and watch the Georgia Tech marching band. My brother goes to Tech, and I was on the drumline back in the day, so this was fun to see. Then on the way to the (excellent) seats, I stopped to see the player parking lot. Huddy's truck! Yay, he's here! Just a week after surgery! (The other giant blue truck is Chipper's, according to pics from the Power Lunches.)

Aren't these great seats? So, so cool. I watched some pre-game on-the-field workouts -- it's not the same without Teix...

Baby was in the outfield, stretching under Eddie's supervision. pic 1 ~ pic 2 ~ pic 3 ~ pic 4 ~ pic 5

JJ trots out to warm up!

The Ramblin' Wreck brings out the first pitch ball. The girl who threw it out is an athlete of some sort, and was totally smitten by Clint. (Can you blame her?)

Frenchy, hamming it up.

Game time!
  • Three rows behind the dugout is a great place to sit, if you want to peek at the players. The only bad thing about ogling the guys? They look back! I made eye contact with MattE, and it wasn't just a shared glance -- it looked like he was trying to figure out if he knew me. No, we haven't met. (No, he wasn't checking me out. It was that look of, "Don't I know you from somewhere?") Here are some pics from later on, of MattE sipping a refreshing beverage.

  • KJ's hair fascinates me, for some reason. I want to smell it, but not in a weird way. He just seems...um...more clean and fresh than some of the guys. pic 1 ~ pic 2 ~ pic 3 ~ pic 4 ~ pic 5 ~ pic 6 (not picking his nose)

  • Aww, the Skip Caray Broadcast Booth. The flag is still at half-mast, too. Later in the evening, Joe's cracking up about something.

  • These three guys rock! Can you see? They're wearing a McCann #16 jersey, a Francoeur #7 jersey, and a Diaz #23 jersey. I want to be friends with them. Call me, boys! :)

  • Charlie and Clint! Drink that SmartWater, dear. You'll need it in that clubhouse. ;)

  • Frenchy at bat. Frenchy out. Chin up, young person!

  • Baby, I'd rather you not look at me like that. And Jeff? Please stop with the giant ball of tobacco. It really takes away from the whole picture.

  • Speaking of Baby...

Good night, boys! Hope we win next time.

Now, I'm not saying the AJC *lies*, exactly...

Fresh off of a potentially slump-breaking night, Jeff Francoeur paid a visit to a most welcoming fan base — students and teachers at his old elementary school.

The Braves right fielder paid a surprise visit Friday morning to Camp Creek Elementary School in Lilburn, signing autographs, posing for pictures and fielding an offer from a child to be his agent.
"A surprise visit"? Really, AJC? Are you telling me all these kids wear all their Braves gear to class every day?

Oooooookay. ;) Well, the kids look super-excited to see him, and that's what's important. Also, I like Catie's shoes. :D

Stuff to read:

Glavine: ligament surgery would signal end to career
Tom Glavine believes he’s headed to surgery to repair his sore left elbow, but he hopes and believes what the surgery will be to repair a torn flexor tendon, not his ligament.

Surgery to repair the flexor tendon would require only about three to four months’ recovery time, Glavine said. In that case he would be ready to pitch at the start of next season, and he would consider pitching next year.

If his ligament is damaged to the point of needing ligament-transplant surgery — which requires 12-16 months recovery and is much more difficult on a 42-year-old — he said he will not have the surgery and he will retire.

Glavine has an appointment with Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham on Wednesday to find out which way he’ll go.
Speaking of Glav, I did not know he and AA manager Phil Wellman were once teammates.

Nice article on Thor's BFF, who's also competing in the Olympics.

MattE's knee's tweaked again. :(

Have you ever seen an angrier "I love you"?

Seriously, though -- congratulations on hitting for the cycle, Kots! :)

More on last night's game to come, along with gameday pics of tonight's game. Watch for it this weekend!

Name that pitch!

The first to post in the comments with what pitch Tommy is throwing here gets a gold star! :D

We're excited to have Glav back tonight!

ETA: It was answered so fast! Jo is the winner of the gold star, and if you'd like to read more about a Circle Change, there are plenty of online resources. Wikipedia mentions Tommy specifically.

Scott Thorman: Olympian

I really miss Thor. (He looks thinner, no?) Here he is rounding the bases after hitting a 3-run homer during yesterday's Olympic game vs. China. If you missed it, he's playing for team Canada. Go, Canada! High fives for everyone! :)

For those of you sitting here saying, "How is Scotty in the Olympics? Isn't he a professional baseball player? And aren't the Olympics for amateur athletes, supposedly?"

The answers are yes and yes. The cutoff in baseball is whether the player is in the majors or the minors at a specific date (this year it was July 23, according to Pete Orr!™). If he's on a major-league roster? He is not eligible to compete. Minor league roster? Tryouts await.

We're cheering for you, Thor! :D

Rain Out #2! :(

I can't believe I've been to two games postponed by rain this season. Crazy! Yesterday was pretty fun, though. Ask LizzieBeth about the pigeons. ;)

I was really looking forward to seeing Charlie pitch, not to mention Rich Harden, who's pitching tonight instead of last night...

Mmm, mmm, good. Allow me to counter with our team's best behind! :D

Anyway, here are some of the pics I took at the rain-shortened BP. Some are not as clear as usual, depending on how much rain was coming down at the time, and the Cubs never took the field. Enjoy!

Actual batting practice:
- Baby in the cage while Frenchy watches
- Kots
- Hey, is that Boog in the background?
- Yeah it is! What up, Boog! Love you!
- "Little Havana", as I'm told they're collectively called

Fielding practice, sort of:
- KJ's pretty calves
- Clint Sammons!
- Big Picture
- High five!

Pitchers pitching:

- Playing with Phil Falco, who I didn't know had a uniform number
- Contemplative...
- Underhand only. Good boy.
- For Crista :)

The Baby Braves tell stories:

- Stop biting your nails, Baby.
- Fight! Fight! Fight! (...I kinda wish they would.)

Our boy El Duderino played an inning or two at shortstop:

- Then talked to Ryan Theriot for a minute before moving into the visitor's dugout.

Bye, boys! Time for the tarp.

One last thing: Who the heck is driving this neon blue...vehicle?

Happy Birthday, Will!

Thanks for keeping us amused! Best wishes for a wonderful day and a great upcoming year. :)

"I like to go streakin' sometimes; it's just one of them hobbies I like to do!"

Like last year, when the going gets tough, SportSouth gives us something to smile about. I've broken down Sunday night's special into a bunch of shorter videos -- hope you love this as much as I did!

(Sorry they're such poor quality, as usual. I'm very close to having enough money for a better recording device, which we will all enjoy.) :)

A few comments:

  • This was taped at different times of the year, obviously -- Pete's still wearing his glasses, so his portions were taped before he had Lasik (following his surgery).

  • I love Clint Sammons for watching Project Runway, and I love MattE more than ever for demonstrating Paula Abdul's clap.

  • Baby looks like he had a couple of beers before his taping. Look how flushed!

  • Huddy's a doll. "Snuggle time."

  • "Dippin'."

  • Why does MattE know N*SYNC so well? (Did I type their name right? I don't even know.)

  • Charlie's creepy little mustache. Please keep it shaven, babe. If you can't grow one like Giambi's, don't grow one at all.

  • "Samuel L. Jackson." The end. :D

"Listen to the crowd of angels and saints; they're going berserk"

I hoped to not have to discuss Skip's funeral / memorial services, but the city is certainly making a big deal about his death. Today's daytime memorial service at Turner Field begins at 10am, and they mentioned on the news this morning that a live stream of the service will be available on 11alive.com and baseballchannel.tv. If you were not able to attend or hear the funeral services, the AJC has a concise article up today.

Here are a few media links, if you'd like to see some of the boys in their suits. I'm very disappointed Baby didn't wear a tie. You know he has one; they have to wear them on road trips. :/ (ETA: I remembered this morning that Skip loathed "neckties", so...maybe it was a tribute?)

Javy is in this video!

Click here for a video from wsbtv.com

Check out Ashley's ruffled top and how Catie somehow looks angry while smiling. Maybe that's her 'upset' face? Who knows. Moving on, Tommy still knows how to wear a suit, and surprisingly, Smoltzie doesn't. (Buttons are good for you, John.) (Thanks for the link, Jennifer!)

I'll be at the game tonight, rain or shine. I'm really looking forward to seeing Skip's pre-game tribute and watching a couple of my baseball boyfriends pitch against each other. :)
