Sammons, wife ready for break

Did that title scare you? It sure scared me; I went all "Ross & Rachel" in my head before reading the whole article. (They're just going on their first anniversary trip. Awwww, sweet.) The article, from the Gwinnett Daily Post, is very complimentary of Clint Sammons. I hope he does make it as our backup catcher this year -- he seems like a good kid.

Having played baseball continuously for almost nine months, Clint Sammons is ready for a break.

The Braves catcher and his wife, Meredith, are heading to Mexico for a week to celebrate their first anniversary.

"It will be nice to finally have some down time and relax," the former Parkview and Georgia Bulldog standout said. "It's been a long grind."

But certainly a rewarding one for Sammons, who made his major league debut in September and had his first two major league hits in the Braves' season finale at Houston.

Next season, Sammons hopes to stick with the Braves as the backup catcher to Brian McCann, another Gwinnett County product.
