"They move on"

Quotes from McCann on Smoltz:

“All year long, he goes out there and gives us everything he's got when he's hurting. It just shows you what kind of guy he is. I look up to him. He's a great teammate and a great friend.”

“He couldn't take anymore. His pain is so great he could barely pick his arm up. He gave us everything he had all season long, and just couldn't take anymore.”

“Knowing him, I know for a fact this is not going to be it. He's going to get back on the field.”

EFRIM, Chipper absolutely did not mean they were throwing in the towel, or that it was even an insurmountable loss. He was merely stating that he thought entering the season that the Braves couldn’t win without Smoltz. He’s been pleasantly surprised that they have “kept their heads above water” without Smoltz, and said this latest news that he won’t pitch at all is devastating.

That’s all. Chipper was actually in an upbeat mood this morning, even after the news, and NO ONE I talked to in the clubhouse, even after that dismal loss, was hanging their heads. No one.

Tough day at the ‘yard, all around. Smoltz announcement and a loss. But that’s it. They move on.

Well if the boys are going to be "upbeat" and not "hanging their heads", then I won't either. I do wish Smoltzie the best, and I'm sure whatever's meant to be will be.

Guhhhhh. That picture is beautiful. His good side. ;) I'll miss that butt.

Pretty obvious that Baby loves the old man, and I thought what Frenchy said was really sweet.

They all love him. I'm pretty sure that's why Bobby told him he could have a week off, then he's back in the clubhouse. I hope they'll mic him again soon. :)

Actually, while they're mic'ing guys who aren't in the game, my boy Moylan needs to be wired for a game or two. He's still around!

It would be great to hear that great Australian accent...

Oh, oh, oh, oh. Alllll for the mic-ing up.

Did you see TWIB this week? They're still using clips from his previous escapades. So cute. They had the clip about how wearing the hat had made him bald. Not the part where he pointed at Huddy and went, "Nothing grows in the shade." though. That was the cutest. He's such a dad to those pups. DeRo still talks about how nice he was to him. <3

Aussie accent would be hot. I've always thought that there should be cams in the dugout/bullpen that you can tap into on MLBtv.

I think there should me a lot more mic'd Braves every game. How much fun would that be? I know they like to keep some stuff in the dugout to themselves, but I really enjoy the funny chatter.

I love what all the guys said about Smoltz. There's a lot of love in that clubhouse, especially for Smoltzie and the veterans. I was sad yesterday, but after seeing the press conference, I really do feel relieved for John. He needs to be able to enjoy life...so he can come back next year!
