I grew up listening to Vin Scully- I always looked forward to listening to him call a game...in the 17 years I have been following the Braves (longer then I was ever a dodger fan) Skip's voice had become as familiar and comfortable as Scully's was growing up. I am glad I got the pleasure of hearing Skip, even for a little while. He will be missed

Oh my gosh when I heard this earlier on ESPN, I was completely devastated as well. I just sat there in shock for a long time. I still can't believe it. Skip always managed to make me laugh and smile during games. I just loved his dry humor. He would say stuff with a straight face(well not that you could see but you knew he did anyway) maybe sometimes not even meaning to be funny, but it would be so hilarious. There will definitely not be another one like him.

Wow - this is shocking. I'll always remember Skip's calls from the early 90's. They've always made me feel better and remember the best times of this team. I'll miss Skip and Pete on the radio together as well as Skip and Chip calling games together. My heart goes out to the entire Caray family.

For those of you who remember it, the AJC posted a clip of the 1992 Sid Bream slide call by Skip. This is probably the call I'll remember most:

Wow, what a tragic loss to Braves baseball...one of the most dry yet witty and sarcastic broadcasters and probably the best one I have ever had the priveledge of listening too...

"Swung, line drive left field! One run is in! Here comes Bream! Here's the throw to the plate! He is ... SAFE! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win!"

“This is where we normally show you this season's highlights, but there aren't any.” ~At the end of one of there incredibally bad seasons...

"Yes! Yes! Yes! The Atlanta Braves have given you a championship! Listen to this crowd!"

"You have our permission to turn off the TV and go to bed now ... as long as you promise to patronize our sponsors." At the end of a game for another lousy season...

"Well, the bases are loaded, and I wish I was too..."

"A chopper to Chipper"

(Saying goodbye to TBS broadcasting) "We don't want to get all maudlin here, but thank you folks and God bless you. And we're going to miss you every bit as much as you miss us."

He was the soundtrack to my childhood...what a devestating loss...
