Bleh, Chipper

See, Baby, you're grinning at him now (with your adorable double-chin), but do you know what he said about you in the AJC last week?

“I don’t think that you can have Brian McCann hitting fourth behind me for the simple fact that he’s not going to play every day. You’ve got to give him some time off because he plays the most demanding position on the field and quite frankly at the end of the season he was gassed. He had nothing left.
Time out, Chipper. YOU don't play every day. As a matter of fact, Baby played 17 more games that you did, including his scheduled days off and time off for the concussion. You may have hit for more average, but Baby had more at bats, more doubles, more home runs, more RBIs, more total bases, and heck -- even one more stolen base than you.

I'd be happy if I didn't hear another word out of his mouth until Spring Training. >:(

Wow- that's quite a vent there Lauren!

I do have to admit it made me laugh out loud- mainly because it's true:)

If I don't let it out once in a while, it's not good for my blood pressure. :)

I don't get why that upsets you. It doesn't seem that Chipper was slighting Brian; actually I agree with what he said. Brian's a great hitter, but towards the end, he wasn't getting on base as often as usual. And, yes, the catcher is the most demanding position on the field and he needs more days off than the rest of the guys. We need an every-day power-hitter like Teix behind Chipper, who--regardless of his personality--is still the team's best hitter. It's nothing personal towards Brian, it's just baseball.

You like Chipper, so obviously you would read the quote differently than someone who does not care for him. I understand what he (and you) are saying. It makes sense. But as usual, it is said in an "I'm better than you" way, and that's what rubs me the wrong way. If you don't hear that tone in the article, that's fine. I do.

Personally, I'm hoping we can somehow get Manny Ramirez in the off-season. Chipper at #3, Manny cleanup, and Baby #5 would be ideal. We could also use a firecracker in the clubhouse -- someone needs to shake these boys up!

Never said I like him...kind of indifferent about him, personally. Huddy and Brian are my favorites, but I also recognize that Chipper IS better than Brian.

That kinda rubbed me the wrong way a little bit, too, when I first read it. :\ I was like, "geez, what's wrong with Mac?" I agree with you, though.

haha def. not what it was supposed to come of as..

like you said, you just don't like him so anything he says you see it in a negative tone.

to me it's just facts. and i'm sure brian wouldn't read that and see it the way you did

Well, I certainly didn't say that. If any of you want to read fawning over Chipper, there are literally thousands of websites, blogs, and sports professionals who can help with that. I appreciate how his talent has helped the Braves, but I will never run one of those sites.

However, if you want to read about someone whose love for a player doesn't always correlate to his statistics, you've found the spot. (Pete Orr!!) :D

I read it as showing concern for Mac, actually. Chipper does seem to like him a lot & knows how important he is to the team. You know he'd never ask out of the lineup, even at the end of the season when he's worn out. They do need someone to take some of the pressure of carrying the offense off him.

I kinda read it both ways- while it is true that Mac was worn out and beat up at the end of the season and it is hard to protect someone in the lineup when you don't play everyday- there was something that came out sounding a little...negative perhaps? in that comment...but he is not necessarily wrong...just wish chipper had phrased it a little differently...and please NO MANNY in our clubhouse!

and I agree- venting is good for the blood pressure...and the soul:)

I think the subject line sums it up nicely. :)

And, the Cubs are gonna get Manny. You heard it here first. :D

well there are only 2 blogs i need: DOB's for firsthand knowledge and statistical reasons, and yours. even if you don't like my man :) just throwin up some defense for him!

and Personally i like chipper i don't know why u don't like him.

Anna, as I've written many, many times on this blog, it has nothing to do with Chipper's abilities as a ballplayer. A person can be great at his job -- any job -- but if he's hateful to the people around him (family and sick kids included), I'm not going to like him. Period.

Y'all, please stop trying to tell me I'm wrong, or trying to change my mind. I'm never going to go into the details of my (multiple) interactions with Mr. Jones publicly, and it's going to take A LOT to get me to change my mind about what kind of man he is.

dam! i usually lurk around here, but i just have to say: hello chipper think before speaking. that was not a wise comment.

SCJ said...

no one's trying to change your mind.. you have your own opinion.

but at the same time, (in defense) he's not as bad as you make him out to be.

I personally think Chipper likes and respects Mac more than anyone on the team and when I read it I didn't bat an eye, but if it had rubbed me the wrong way and I had a braves blog, then I would have said it rubbed me the wrong way on my braves blog. :)

I actually agree with you lo- I think Chipper does think very highly of Mac and don't think he meant those words as negitive- but they did come out that way to me, at least a little more then I care for...but that is my opinion:)

If we all had the same opinions and liked or disliked the same people think of how boring we would be- they are what makes life interesting:)

I think that's enough for now. Thanks for sharing your opinions, everyone. I'm going to close the comments on this post; please don't use the comment sections of other posts to discuss this. We're done.
