Well, we didn't exactly do anything in the winter meetings, but I found this clip in a San Diego newspaper interesting:
– As part of Jake Peavy trade talks in November, the Padres and Braves were far along on a 4-for-1 plan that included shortstop Yunel Escobar and center fielder prospect Gorkys Hernandez. The Padres wanted the Braves to include starting pitcher Charlie Morton instead of Jo-Jo Reyes and pushed hard for either pitching prospect Jeff Locke or catching prospect Tyler Flowers to be substituted for reliever Blaine Boyer. Talks regressed from there, and the Braves later traded Flowers to the White Sox. According to mlb.com, the Braves now would be unwilling to deal Escobar, described by teammate Chipper Jones as the best shortstop in the National League. Whether Peavy would consent to a trade to Atlanta also remains in question, though if the Cubs are out of the picture, it can't hurt those chances."The Padres wanted the Braves to include starting pitcher Charlie Morton instead of Jo-Jo Reyes... Talks regressed from there..." I'm glad to know that we weren't willing to give up Charlie so quickly! :D
I still think we need a stud starting pitcher before the season starts. I also think that if MattE has his strength back, he'll be a perfectly fine starting left fielder and that Josh will be a great center fielder. (*crosses fingers that he gets the job*)

That's the best news I've heard all day.
I'm glad they're keeping MattE, but I don't think he'll be the starting left fielder with the talks of us getting one that can hit for power and hit homers and what not behind Chipper and in front of Mac. I'm just glad he'll be back! I was kind of sad to see Chuckie go, but I guess it was the right thing to do since he's out for most of the '09 season and stunk for what time we did have him.
The Padres are asking for way too much from everybody. That's why the Cubs backed out of talks and left them holding their... Peavy. :D Losing Charlie would have made me sad, and as good as he is, Peavy's not really even a #1 on most staffs, in my opinion. He's been working in a really pitcher-friendly park in Sandy Eggo, and he's unproven in the post-season, too.
Oh, and in case that sounded too serious, don't forget that I'm here 90% for the butts. Therefore I think you should definitely go see Blaine and Huddy. <3 :D
