Does Chipper want to retire a Brave?

His answer is pretty clear in the current issue of Sporting News...

If Chipper Jones ever appears in a Mets uniform, that will be a sign that the end of the world is near.

Please let's not go there...I am still trying to cleanse my brain of the image of John Smoltz in a red sox uni...and I actually like the red sox

I'm with you, CA.

Chipper has always made it clear that he wants to remain a Brave. I think recent events made him consider the possibility that he might not have that option. I know he's not well-liked by everyone here but you can't fault his loyalty to the Braves. He has never gone to free agency & has reworked contracts to help the team financially. I respect that about him.

Assuming Chipper had come up in New York / Chicago / LA instead of Atlanta, and had the same numbers (and injuries, and scandal) over the years, do you guys think he would be as big a superstar in larger cities as he is in Atlanta?

I don't think those cities would be as patient and forgiving as Atlantans have been, honestly.

If Chipper had put up the same numbers in those other cities, I think he'd actually be a bigger star. Let's be honest...Atlanta isn't known for being a great sports town, and I don't think the athletes are worshipped (for lack of a better word) near as much as they are in other cities (think Boston). As far as those other cities being as patient and forgiving....numbers talk. If you put up the numbers, the fans will forgive you. That's how it oftentimes appears to work, right or wrong.

Honestly- most fans in L.A are completely ambivalent towards a particular sport unless it is actually being played...during basketball it is all about kobe and the lakers(excuse me while I vomit) and now the papers are on Manny Watch...they would feel the same way about Chipper- love him during baseball season, totally forget he exists the rest of the year
