Bobby's extension, Brayan DFA'd, and Memorial Day Shopping

Two pieces of news and a coupon code today...

1. Bobby Cox hammered out a one-year contract extension today with the club, so he'll be managing through the 2009 season. According to Skip Caray, the organization would have given him a longer contract, but Bobby only wanted to do one year and see how he feels after that.

2. Brayan Peña was designated for assignment today. (See Wikipedia for a good explanation of the topic.) I love having him around, and I'm sure some team will snatch up a switch-hitting bilingual catcher. Good luck, Brayan. :(

3. If anyone's looking to make a Braves Clubhouse Store purchase this weekend, I received an email today saying...

LONG TIME NO SHOP!

We noticed you haven't shopped with braves.com Shop in a long while. Here's an offer to entice you back. Take 20% off your next purchase! Simply enter code MEMWKND at checkout.
Yeah, it's been a while. :) The code will probably work for anyone, so feel free to use it if you can.

What's Yunel going to do without Brayan around?? I would have liked to have seen him stay in Atlanta. Now I'll just have to hope he somehow clears waivers.

I think Yunie will be in Atlanta for a loooong time. He'll have to make other friends, I guess. Brayan was always so cheery, but not as good a defensive catcher as Corky, which is why he was let go.
