Bye, Teix. *sob*

Mark Teixeira is now an Angel. Well, he always was, but now that's going to be emblazoned on his chest. ESPN is reporting he's been traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for first baseman Casey Kotchman and a minor-league pitcher, Stephen Marek.

I'm going to have a hard time not calling him "Krotchman", y'all, and I haven't even looked at that area yet. ;) Meet your new first baseman, Lovvies:

PS -- Doc says I have bronchitis. It hurts to breathe, and that has nothing to do with this trade. This is a bad day.

So true bout the Angel part.

dude... he was my favorite for the longest time...

=(. I'm following him wherever he goes.

Ditto, Crista. He just bumped DeRo as my favorite/hottest former Brave.

At least he came out here where I can see him play just as much...and with my favorite American League team:)

I really hate this. Yeah we were all expecting it but I don't know if that made it any easier. Just...ugh.

by the way the Angels just became the team to beat...don't know how much you all have seen them play but they already have the best record in the league...add Tex to that lineup and they are scary good

I'll keep watching Teix, too. I hope for his sake that the Angels do make it to the postseason. He deserves that. I'm still a little stunned that Kotchman is who we got for him (and the reliever I know nothing about), though he is young. I hope he does well...Teix's bat is going to be hard to replace.

SDP is at The Ted tonight and was watching the player parking lot for us -- said Teix just left in a black Mercedes.

Don't watch for him in the dugout tonight...

:( I hope Teix is happy in LA. That's all I really care about. I hope he's excited about joining a team that's a contender. I know he'll miss Atlanta...

Hope you feel better soon, Lauren!

Thanks, Jessica. :) Bad time for it to hurt to talk, huh?

More from SDP:

"Was flanked by a few photographers...head held high...holding some papers...and drove away"

Krotchman. Is that like AssMan? :D

I bet it was weird for him to have to leave the park to go home and pack. At least the team was at home when it happened, and he's done this before.

Get yourself some good cough meds and rest up, honey. We can't have you DL'd too.

From FoxSports' website (makes me love Teix more!) :

Teixeira said there was time when he would've signed a deal with Atlanta and bypassed the possibility of free agency.

"I was always open for it. This whole year I was open for it. But that's business. It just didn't work out," he said. "I loved it here. I really did. I wanted to stay here for the rest of my career. But business is business. Sometimes you have to move on and I'm looking forward to moving on to LA.

"I told everybody that I loved playing here. I love this team. I love Bobby Cox. He's an amazing man. He's an amazing manager. When my career is over I'm going to be able to tell my kids and my grandkids that I played for Bobby Cox and I played with Chipper Jones and I played with John Smoltz and Tom Glavine. Those are things I'm going to be proud of."

that little excerpt from foxsports, just makes me more sad since we could've had him for many more yrs to come but it didn't happen.

I'm going to blame Scott Boras until somebody tells me different... :)

same here, and maybe whoever curse us with so many injuries this yr!

Jennifer, the wives are stuck packing up the house. The guys take a suitcase and leave as if it's a road trip. Teix will be in Fenway tonight.

Jessica, thanks for that quote. I heard him say that on the radio before the game and I almost teared up.

For those of you who aren't in the PTV-viewing area, Wren said in the broadcast that this spring training, they offered Teix a long-term contract, for a lot of $$, and "he and his agent" declined. It's all Borass.

Crista, thanks for the pic! What a goof -- I miss him. :)

Jennifer said...

Yeah. By "pack" I meant underwear and socks in a suitcase on the way to the airport. ;)

Great interview with Smoltzie on Dan Patrick's show this morning talking about trading Tex (obviously before he was actually dealt) amoung other things...it's kinda long but as entertaining as always...

For the record he blames Glavine for all the injuries this year:)

From DOB's AJC blog:

TEX: “I think I did everything that was asked of me. I came in here and played good defense and drove in runs. Unfortunately, we had so many injuries this year it just didn’t work out. You can’t help that. You really can’t.”

“It’s a little unfortunate that we had those injuries, but it’s just part of the game. I love all these guys, I really do.”

“Very bittersweet. I’m gonna miss these guys.”

When asked if Braves might get in free-agent bidding for him, he smiled:

“I would probably say no. I thought I’d be here the rest of my career. I really wanted to stay here, but business is business and it’s time for me to move on.”

:( This photo is like the saddest.

The ones I love always get traded away. Might as well not ever love anybody but Smoltz and Chipper because everyone else is interchangeable (hope Baby Heap is the new Chipper in terms of only team he's ever played for!).

Anyway, sigh. Good luck, Teix.

Yep, it's been a bad day. Games will never be the same without Bubble-butt.
Best wishes, Tex!

And, btw, I hate Boras! I think he has a secret affiliation with the Mets! He moves all our good people away.

The news was broken to me at the beach...talk about a downer on the trip. I'll guess I'll retire my Teixeira shirt along with my Andruw jersey (given, not bought). Sigh, he will be missed, that's forsure.

There's now a video up of Teix from yesterday. I can't listen to it at work, so he may be saying the same thing...but thought y'all might want to see it.
