Crazy = Funny

While driving to work this morning, I was listening to my regular morning radio show. They had a female caller on the voice disguiser (at her request), and the woman told about how her boyfriend of five months is a HUGE Phillies fan. Apparently he's so far gone into his Phillies love that he dresses in full uniform to watch the games (including cleats), and his buddies do the same when they come over. When they play baseball video games, they share a helmet -- the person at bat (on the game) wears it. She thought the whole thing was crazy, she didn't think she could handle the next 10 days of World Series, and most of the people calling in told her that really...he could be into much worse stuff. (I wanted to ask the woman if she'd ever seen 'Fever Pitch', because her BF didn't sound nearly as far gone as Ben.)

After the weather and traffic break, one of the members of the morning show told the following story. Please forgive my paraphrasing, I'm doing this from memory. :) He prefaced the story by saying this may just be urban legend. (So, not sure if this is true, but I could see this happening!)

You know that John Smoltz and Jeff Foxworthy are good friends, right? Well, Foxworthy bought a new Xbox or some new gaming system. One of the games Foxworthy bought was a baseball game, and Smoltzie was a character in the game, so he invited his buddy over to play. Smoltzie shows up at the house in a head-to-toe full uniform, just as a joke. They play, all is well, good times.

Well, as Smoltzie leaves to go home, Foxworthy calls the police to report an erratic driver on the route Smoltzie takes to get back to his house, in hopes the police will stop him -- still in his full uniform -- in the middle of the off-season.

He didn't tell the resolution of the story, but what we heard was pretty funny!

Speaking of Smoltzie and Foxworthy, are any of you going to An Evening with Smoltz, Foxworthy & Friends? I heard a rumor that some current Braves (Baby, Frenchy, Glav) are going to show up too. Yay, charity events!

ETA: A blog reader just pointed out how GL Smoltzie and Fox always look when they photograph together, and Reader sent over a couple of pics. Let's examine, shall we? :)

Mmmm hmmm, I see Reader's point. Next?

You know, Reader, maybe they're just BFF, like Baby and Frenchy used to be? Do we know if S & F bought matching brother dogs, or registered for the same china pattern when they married, or anything like that? Because that only indicates friendship. ;)

Boys. *eyeroll*

I'd read the story about him showing up in full uniform, (Complete with glove and spikes.) but didn't know the part about Foxworthy calling Statey on him. That sounds about right, though. Boys. *eyeroll* We love them. :D

The story Foxworthy always tells is that he hoped Smoltz would have gotten pulled over so he would have to explain why he was in full uniform in the middle of the offseason.

I think the story has turned into one of those...the fish was this big and then it it was this big stories.

So the story is true according to Foxworthy and Smoltz...but I think some of the details have been exaggerated over time.

And another thing, :)

What happened to the hat in the second pic? Hmmmmmm.

After looking at these, I feel I need to brain cleanse with some butt shots.

Jennifer-

at least he looks good bald... almost as good as Huddy does:)

(is it too early to say I am going to miss Huddy next year? And Smoltzie if he doesn't come back? *Shudder* I don't even want to think about that!)
