Hi Nate

Ladies (and the three gentlemen who read this blog), meet Nate. He's our new outfielder.

We gave up a lot for him, so let's hope he keeps up his previous performance with the Pirates and doesn't suffer from "little fish in a big pond" syndrome. Good luck, Nate. See you tonight!

(I'm still upset over Charlie.)

ETA: I've had more than a few people (almost all men, haha) say, "How can you not like this move?" Well, I do think it was best for the team and I think Charlie will have a better shot at pitching in the show for the Pirates than he would have for the Braves. That doesn't mean I have to be happy that we gave up Charlie instead of Medlen or Jo-Jo. Seriously, if you know anything about me, you know I don't really care about winning or championships. Winning is fun, but it's not the end-all-be-all for my enjoyment of the game. With McLouth here, I know we have a better shot at winning... and that makes everyone happy. Good for you. Y'all enjoy that. I'm going to be watching every one of Charlie's starts that I can. I'm NOT abandoning the Braves and I'm NOT cheering more for the Pirates now. *rolls eyes* C'mon, people. I'm allowed to be upset for more than 30 seconds about losing my favorite player.

Here's an article that talks a little about Nate as a person, if you're interested. What is it with Michigan-based Braves and bad hair? ;)

He isn't that bad, I suppose. But I still miss Charlie. He seeemed like such a sweetheart. :(

That hair made him look like a lion or something. :)

Maybe Bennett can spruce it up a bit. :)

They probably couldn't give Jo Jo away. I can't stand him. He seems so smug.

No kidding about the bad hair...he's another one that is cute as long as he keeps the hat on :)

I wonder if when Jeff cuts hair, does he have that large wad of chew in his cheek. If it calms him and helps him concentrate, I'd want him to put it in.

Heh heh. 1. He doesn't cut hair with anything in his mouth, according to the video we saw on Braves Live late last year, and 2. it's sunflower seeds, not tobacco. :)

Sunflower seeds? That thought never crossed my mind. I guess that is from growing up in a small town near Valdosta.

I automatically assumed chew too, but I read/saw it in an interview that he's a seed guy. I've also seen him go from empty cheek to packed cheek in BP -- I had no idea one mouth could hold that many sunflower seeds!

Jerome is talking with McLouth right now on Braves Live, and he's ditched the bad hair - it's reddish and short and sort of spiky now. He seems very well spoken, too.

Nate on Braves Live: http://tinypic.com/r/2zs1wso/5

Hmmm, Braves Live is only one letter off from Braves Love. :/

AMEN, Lauren. You be upset for as long as you feel like it. I can imagine losing your favorite is not an easy thing to take, regardless of how you feel about the move. I'm sure the players would be happy to know that you care enough about them so much as opposed to only caring about their stats. Let it out on a punching bag and cheer up when you get around to it!

ps. Thanks for posting the Braves Live video, it kills me that Extra Innings doesn't broadcast the pre/post shows. Hmm, I may need my own punching bag...

I like getting Nate but I'm sorry we had to give up Charlie, I had really taken to him. I thought of you as soon as I heard he was included, Lauren.

Thanks, y'all. :)

Anyone else think Bennett was in charge of Nate's new hair, now that we know they used to be teammates? From the AJC yesterday:

"The only really familiar faces in the Braves clubhouse to him were relievers Mike Gonzalez and Jeff Bennett, who played with McLouth in the minor leagues, and Chipper Jones, who went to a Penguins-Flyers playoff game with McLouth and a group of players last May and played with him in last year’s All-Star game."
