"Somewhat disgruntled"

From the Cincinnati Reds' mailbag...

I've heard that the Atlanta Braves have been somewhat disgruntled with outfielder Jeff Francoeur, who has a career .434 slugging percentage. and .268 batting avg., with an average of 81 RBIs per season. Francoeur might be able to help to fill the current right-handed-hitter void in the Reds. Your thoughts?

Despite enduring a rough 2008, Francoeur is the type of player that would help the Reds, I think. He had 100-RBI seasons in 2006 and 2007, and over his career, he's done well with runners in scoring position (.290 batting average). He's also a good bet for 25-30 homers a season. Sure, Francoeur was briefly demoted to Double-A last season, and the Georgia native heard boos from his hometown crowd for the first time. But I don't totally believe the Braves will be done with him quite so quickly.

Agreed, Mr. Sheldon. But it is nice to hear other teams say our Frenchy has value, right? He really got trashed here in the '08 season -- by the media, the bloggers, the faceless people on the internet -- and I do hope he bounces back next year. It just won't be quite as fun to watch a team without someone running "like a cross between Kermit the Frog and the Six-Million-Dollar Man" in right field. :D

Cross between Kermit the Frog and the Six Million Dollar Man. Or, that other thing. :D

What happens to someone who loooooves attention, like Frenchy does, when he goes to a small market team? Hmmmm.

Jennifer-

Cincinnati maybe a small market team but they get much more national exposure then the Braves do...but I feel it is a moot point because I don't believe the Braves are ready to give up on him just yet (nor am I)

Lauren- where did that "Kermit and the $6 Million man" quote come from? Love it!

Cincinnati does not get more national exposure than the Braves. I live about 5 hours from Cincy, and we only hear about the Reds in relation to the Cubs. :)

they get more (a lot more) out here then the braves do- neither one get much but in relation to each other (and a lot of other small market teams)it isn't even close...when the Braves moved to the NL East they might as well have fallen into a black hole for all the press they get (even when they were winning)-for whatever reason cincinnati seems to be attractive to a lot of people who don't live in the midwest- which you so aptly pointed out is cubs country:)
