The Braves annual women's only baseball basics clinic is next Saturday -- who's going?! If I could afford it right now, I certainly would! If you can make it, please share some stories. :)
Who's going to be there, you wonder? Peach Buzz says:
Baseball seminar for women only Atlanta Braves Matt Diaz, Peter Moylan, Eric O’Flaherty and Buddy Carlyle have, er, bravely agreed to be the guinea pigs/instructors at a ladies-only Baseball 101 seminar scheduled for 9 a.m. June 6 at Turner Field.
At the fan-friendly clinic sponsored by Publix, the boys will offer fun tutorials on batting, fielding and pitching skills. We’re told that women are encouraged to register as soon as possible because space is limited. Also, the registration will include two tickets to that night’s 7 o’clock game against the Milwaukee Brewers ($80 for the upper box package and $110 for the outfield package), with proceeds going to the Atlanta Braves Foundation and the Doris Shaheen Breast Health Center at Piedmont Hospital. Plus, you score lunch, a Baseball 101 T-shirt, and a Braves gift bag with an autographed item. Females 18 and over can register at www.braves.com/baseball 101 or contact the Braves Community Affairs Department at 404-614-1435. But please be advised: None of the participating players’ cellphone digits are included with the registration fee.

I wish I could, but we're going to stone mountain that day :D.
I thought about going last year, maybe next.
My friend wanted me to come up there to do that with her, but the prices are a bit too steep, and I can't go to a game right now anyway. I understand it costing a good bit because of the activities and the game, etc., but that's a bit steep for the average person these days and it's only for two people, with more people costing extra.
And none of the starting players tend to want to do that anyway. :\ MattE's done this event several times and I believe Buddy has, too. But the turnout is usually good, regardless, so that's good.
LOL no surprise that Petey Moylan signed up for this. I'm guessing he raised his hand first.
What's funny is that I can easily imagine the other three saying, "I want to help!" while Moylan says, "Women!! Yeah!!"
Heh heh.
Lauren, that comment made my day.
Thank you very much :)
And now, I can imagine it.
Darn, now I really wish I could go. Darn Age/ Stone Mountain :D
I actually went a few years ago. Matt Diaz taught us how to catch pop-flies and grounders which was pretty cool, and sadly, the other players who helped out are no longer with the Braves, or not in the majors right now. Tyler Yates and Chuck James taught us how to pitch, Chad Poronto teamed up with Matty and Chris Woodward taught us how to bat. It was a lot of fun, but if you do want to go, I would definitely recommend going with a few girlfriends. I didn't have anyone to go with at the time, but it was still a great experience none the less. I tell everyone now that Matt Diaz taught me how to catch in the outfield!
LOL Lauren!
Marie, that's so cool! I'd love to go someday but I am such an unathletic person I'd make a fool of myself & likely hurt something.
i'm going with 4 friends ... 4 of us are from Miami, 1 from indiana! can't wait :)
Jennise, have a great time! Registration closes today, and I can't believe I can't afford to go. :( Maybe next year more of my fave Braves will be hosting. :D
i'll let you all know how it turns out ;)
Jennise, there's a little article about you in the local paper! http://blogs.ajc.com/peachbuzz/2009/06/06/female-fans-take-on-braves-at-baseball-101-clinic/
If I'd known so many of my faves were participating, I definitely would have been there. :(
