Would you trade these Braves?

Good fans. :)

The AJC has a photo gallery up, asking fans if you want to trade a handful of current Braves. I'm loving the fan support of some of these boys. Click here to see the full gallery. Are there any you'd want to trade? (Right now Mac is the only one with a higher "no" percentage than Jonny -- Mac is at 94% and Jonny, as you can see, is at 93%.)

2011 GIBBYs Results

MLB

Well-deserved, Kimmie. We're very excited about this result, and look forward to you closing out games in Atlanta for many years to come.

As for the other Braves nominees, condolences. I'm especially upset one of our boys didn't win Setup Man of the Year, and all I can figure is David Robertson had 1. Pinstripes, 2. 100 Ks, and 3. Socks Up Power. Hmmph. (Seriously, only 8.9% of the vote went to EO? Did they not see his 0.98 ERA over 78 appearances? SERIOUSLY?!) (Now I feel bad for voting for Jonny over EO. Sorry, I love you both.)

But back to Kimbrel - DOB also retweeted a link to a video of Kimmie being honored in his hometown. I love his hair right now!

That's pretty great. :)

DO NOT LIKE.

From Bowman on braves.com:

The Braves will almost certainly not tender Peter Moylan a contract by Monday. But Wren said he has already had discussions with Moylan's agent, Adam Katz, about the possibility of the Australian reliever returning once he begins throwing and proves that his surgically repaired right shoulder is sound.

Moylan made just seven appearances this year before he needed to undergo back surgery to repair a ruptured disc. After he returned to the Atlanta bullpen in September, he made just six more appearances before needing to undergo shoulder surgery.

While Moylan is hoping to be ready to pitch early next season, there is certainly a chance he could miss much of the season's first half.

"There's still some unknown about his health status," Wren said. "We probably won't know more until he starts throwing and we get deeper into the rehab process."
Okay. I get it. He's had 3 back surgeries. He's had Tommy John. He just had his shoulder zapped. Wren is 100% business-minded (which is why I have never wanted to be a baseball exec) and he might see a health liability there for a 30-something reliever.

From a fan perspective... if you're a fan and you want Moylo off the team, I don't think we can be friends anymore. There's more than on-field contributions to take into account. He's great with the fans, the rest of the players talk about how fun he is in the clubhouse, and honestly, he's a good pitcher. The negatives don't outweigh the positives, in my opinion.

I understand wanting to pay him less, considering he earned $2MM in 2011 while appearing in only 13 games. 8.1 innings. That's $246,913.58 per inning, or $153,846.15 per appearance. For regular people, that's a lot of money. I'd like to make $153K per appearance at work. ;)

So, here are Lauren's Hopes Regarding the Situation:
  • I hope Moylo recovers and is stronger than ever.
  • I hope he never needs another surgery.
  • I hope, if the Braves do non-tender him, they bring him back as soon as possible.
  • I hope he's okay with taking a smaller salary to stay a Brave.

I don't think I can take many more Winter Meetings talks. They're not fun for me at all. (Yes, I unfollowed everyone on Twitter who is shouting we should trade Jonny Venters.)

Awesome. Prove them wrong.

Random PS -- I get a lot of searches for "Braves Love Tumblr". It's not called Braves Love, for one thing. It's called Love My Bravos. It's just a silly thing. I'd also like to pimp our new Tumblr, Maxamillion Milkshake. It's mostly pictures of my cousin's dog being awesome in our apartment.

I love this video infinity.

This video showed up in my inbox today, and after about 10 seconds in, I made my cousins Andy and Emily watch it on the big TV instead of on a computer. It's totally worth full-screen, y'all. The only way it could be better is if it also included EO and Meds and Moylo and all the other bullpen boys we love. :)

Hello November

I hate November. It's just bleak. No Braves, no Hawks this year, everyone's gearing up for Christmas when it's not even Thanksgiving yet. I just went to New York for a Big Gay Halloween (thanks to a fabulous friend of mine), and while that was so fun, coming back to the harsh realities of NOVEMBER suck. Here are some things that have happened lately...

You can vote in the GIBBY (Greatness in Baseball Yearly) Awards. Through December 4, vote here as often as you can for the following Braves:

  • Rookie - Freddie Freeman
  • Closer - Craig Kimbrel
  • Setup Man - Eric O'Flaherty and Jonny Venters are both nominated. How to choose?! I guess if I was going straight by the stats I'd have to vote EO, but I want my Jonny to win everything always. :(
  • Must-C Walkoff - The 19th inning winning "hit" by Scott Proctor. I loved that game.
  • Must-C Fan Moment - Great catch by a Braves fan!

Hinske's back next year! Nate is not. 2011 Braves who filed for free agency: Alex Gonzalez, Scott Linebrink, Nate McLouth, George Sherrill, and Jack Wilson. I would like Gonzo and FABF George Sherrill to return for 2012. I'm glad Ske is "excited" to stay with the Braves. :)

I forgot my camera! Yay for camera phones.

While in NYC, I talked my friend into going to the MLB Fan Cave! You can't see much from the outside and they don't allow fans inside, but we did see Mike O'Hara walking in. On the side of the building there's a touchscreen that allows you to take a picture and email it to yourself. So here we were on Halloween afternoon!

Walker, DeRo, Holland vs Venters

I haven't commented on our new hitting coach because I don't really have an opinion. Sure, Greg Walker is from Douglas, GA -- that doesn't necessarily mean he's the most amazing choice! ...But obviously, I don't know anything. I mean, look what Frank "Big Hurt" Thomas has to say about him!

How nice. (This article isn't so nice, generally, but has some interesting information.)

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

The Braves have said that an off-season need is a utility guy.

Dear Braves,
Please please please bring DeRo back. He's wonderful.
Love,
Lauren

Bowman's mailbag earlier this month brought up the question I've been wondering for a month, and it seems like it might be a possibility!
Do you see the Braves signing Mark DeRosa to be a super-utility type of guy?
-- Jeff M., Lakeland, Fla.

DeRosa's versatility could certainly help the Braves, and there's no doubt he would like to play alongside his good friends Chipper Jones and Brian McCann. His ability to play most of the infield positions and corner outfield positions would give manager Fredi Gonzalez some of the flexibility that he lacked with Brooks Conrad this past season.

But there are also concerns about DeRosa, who has recorded just 201 plate appearances since suffering a left wrist injury in 2009. He partially tore a tendon in his left wrist again this past May. After returning in early August, he hit .367 with just one extra-base hit (a double) in 49 at-bats.

While some of you might remember DeRosa as a shortstop during the early days of his career, he has made just two appearances (one start) at the position since the start of the 2007 season. Still, as long as he remains healthy, he certainly has the potential to give the Braves bench that it lacked this year.

Last night's World Series game was a gem for Dutch. Afterwards, David Freese had this to say...
Facing Rangers starter Derek Holland for the first time in his career, Freese struck out in his first at-bat. He later grounded into a double play and grounded out to short.

"Very impressive," Freese said of Holland's night, which featured 8 1/3 shutout innings. "If I was going to compare it, it was kind of like facing [Braves reliever Jonny] Venters for eight innings. Same type of action on everything. Throwing offspeed for strikes. Spotting in. Tough battle."

Hmm. I don't see the similarities, from the perspective of a fan watching the game. Maybe the release points are comparable, and I know he was saying the look of the pitches was the same, but...it just doesn't look all the same to me. Let's look.

Do you see it? Help me see it, please? I mean, Dutch had a great game, but he's no Jonny. :)

(...Aren't you proud of me for not comparing their facial hair? I think you'd know my opinion anyway.)

2011 "Love Notes": Pitchers

At the end of 2008, I wrote an end of the year wrap-up on each player in the organization. 2009 was skipped, and last year I decided to write “love notes” instead of a semi-objective wrap up for each player. A few people have wondered if I’m doing the same this year – why not? So here are short little notes to the boys, from one of their biggest fans. Ya know. :)

Names taken from baseball-reference.com, hope I didn’t miss anyone...

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

Dear Huddy,

It was so nice to have a starting pitcher we could fully rely on every time you took the ball. Will you please retire a Brave? We want you here forever.

Love,
Lauren

#32
Dear DLowe,

DLowe’s never gonna read this, who am I kidding. Heh. But, I like his "Low" songs and his crazy hair and how he gets streaky hot pink when he pitches.

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#49
Dear JJ,

2012 is going to be a healthy year. I’m positive. Also, your sparklesmile is one of the best on the team – maybe THE best.

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#37
Dear Beachy,

What an incredible year you had, and you somehow managed to get hotter every month. How did you do that? Some of your teammates need tips.

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#48
Dear Tommy,

Did you ever see the Tommyball? It is one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever seen, and I love that Rossy noticed all the things I did – in the same order! It’s pink! The hearts! Your tongue is out! hahahaha

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#36
Dear MikeMinor,

You’re too good to spend another year in AAA. I hope we have a rotation spot for you in 2012. Also, I like your face.

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#40
Dear Randall,

LOVED the Socks Up and your incredible composure! Bring them back next year!

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#50
Dear Cristhian,

You were one of our bullpen MVPs. See ya next year. :)

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#57
Dear Teheran,

You were great! Excited to watch you pitch again next year!

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#43
Dear Proctor,
I kinda felt bad seeing you sitting in the bullpen downstairs all by yourself, but...you didn’t help us win very often. There was that one awesome walk-off stumblehit. That wasn’t bad.

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#39
Dear Jonny,

My fave. Am I allowed to just type you a million hearts? Hey, it’s my blog, I can do whatever I want! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Love!
Lauren

PS – Socks up! ❤

-------------------------------------------------

#52
Dear FABF Sherrill,

I hope you return next year, and I’m sorry if you heard me call you FABF at the beginning of the season. I mean it in a complimentary way! 100%!

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#38
Dear Anthony,

I liked watching you pitch. Come back next year, yes?

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#34
Dear EO,

If the Braves ever drop you before you’re ready to go, I might cry. ...Okay, not cry. But I would be very upset. How can you be so awesome at pitching and such a nice person and so pretty all at the same time? You’re breaking all the stereotypes in my baseball brain! ❤

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#53
Dear CoryGearrin,

You thought I was 22 when we met before the season started? Hahahaha. Yeah, that made you one of my instafaves.

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#54
Dear Meds,

You didn’t have to throw gum at us, parade-style, to get us to come to your line. Obviously we’d rather play with you than, well, most of the team. :D

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#46
Dear Kimmie,

SO MUCH I want to say here, but in the interest of brevity, you had a great season. I enjoyed every minute. Please keep posing for pictures in BP next year (you’re the best at it, you know) and please reconsider the girly teal swirly vines and lotus flowers that accompany your closer’s intro. The song is great! The graphics are not. Just...talk to someone. :)

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#56
Dear “Jairo”,

Your hair is delightfully fluffy, and I won’t lie, I always wonder if Jairo Ascencio is your real name.

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#59
Dear Vizzy,

You had the most wonderful intro song. Come back next year!

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#58
Dear Moylo,

You’re awesome. Remember how I said I’d stop making fun of the teef? I can’t. We can see them across the stadium. Sorry. :D

Love,
Lauren

-------------------------------------------------

#19
Dear Linebrink,

I spent most of the year joking that your wife and I were the only ones cheering for you, because the stadium was always so quiet when you entered the game. I always cheer for all my pitchers. Good luck next year.

Love,
Lauren

Links for the end of the 2011 season

Yeah, I know, I don't want to think about it any more than you do, but here we go...

  • "Braves complete epic collapse, miss playoffs" - AJC
  • “I’m proud of the club," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "We battled today. The ball that Pence hit, you couldn’t throw it or place it any better. And they got the win. It’s a good club over there, but I’m really proud of our club, the way we battled. We had an opportunity to play for tomorrow, but it didn’t work out."
"But baseball’s like that. It’s kind to you one day and fickle the next.” - Chipper
  • "Heavy load takes toll on Venters, Kimbrel" - AJC Well, yeah. I liked this blip at the end, though:
  • O’Flaherty finished the season with an 0.98 ERA which is the lowest season ERA by a reliever with at least 75 games since 1900.
  • "Wren Q and A: Neither Lowe, Heyward guaranteed starting jobs" - AJC
  • Q. Has it become redundant to hear [Lowe] say he needs to make mechanical changes? A. No, I just think it’s a situation where you want to put the best five starters out there, and right now the way we project, I’m not sure Derek would be one of our best five starters. I’ll just leave it at that.
    Q. Is re-signing Alex Gonzalez still an option? A. Yes.
  • "Wren Q and A Part II: Talking McCann, Prado, Bourn and more" - AJC
  • Q. How concerned are you about Hanson’s shoulder? A. Based on the information we have right now, not very. It’s just going to take some time. None of the doctors have come back with any structural damage, and so it’s one of those things where we were trying to ramp him up and see if we could get him ready to pitch at some point in the postseason if we made the postseason, and he couldn’t get going that quickly.
    Q. What do you tell Medlen about his role heading into the winter? A. He could do so many things. The great thing was getting him back and getting him into major league games and competing again, because it sends him off with the confidence that he knows he’s back, and we know he’s back. And whether he’s a starter or a reliever – I don’t know the answer to that right now – but he can do either.
  • "Parrish dismissed as Braves hitting coach" - braves.com - Well, someone had to take a hit. The offense just never propelled us.
  • "Wait until next year" - philly.com
  • In Atlanta, where the Phillies swept the Braves in the final three regular-season games, reliever Jonny Venters said he had a sleepless night. "I was just sitting in bed," he said. "I couldn't really believe what happened. "Everybody started struggling at the same time. Everything just kind of snowballed."
"If you look at our offense for the whole year, it never clicked for whatever reason," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "It never hit on all cylinders. The pitching covered it up for 5 months."
  • "Two teams folded, but only one really gets ripped" - cleveland.com
  • "Braves Notebook" - foxsportssouth.com - I didn't know Nate had season-ending surgery on August 4. They didn't really announce this?
  • Craig Kimbrel's solid season ends badly for Braves - foxsportssouth.com
  • "My mind was rushing," [Kimbrel] said. "Things started moving too fast. My head started moving too fast. My brain. I didn't put it together. It was just too late when I felt like I could. "It was tough. It was tough to be so close and then have the feeling like it was falling out of your hand. And that's the feeling I have now."
    Poor Kimmie.
  • Speaking of... I hope he got his wallet back. - Deadspin
  • This article seems kinda pissy that Huddy didn't show up for his award. He just got off work. Let him breathe for a second.

Let's end with some nice things, okay? We never got pics of rookie hazing this year, so here's EO with his Princess backpack from back when he was a Mariner:

Cute. :)

And I superlove it when our boys show a little excitement after big moments. These definitely weren't "ho hum" (Joe Simpson) moments:

Game Day Pictures: Braves vs Phillies 9-28-11

last day

My pictures from this game, they are not great. I had a cold, and when I polled my friends and Twitter followers, I asked if I should go to BP anyway or wait till my brother got off work, so he could come to my place and drive us? ONE person said I should skip BP and rest. Everyone else told me to go. (I love my friends.)

Well, this was my 50th game of the year...it's not like I've never been to BP before... and we're totally going to the playoffs. I was confident. (And felt crappy.) So I waited for Brother and he decided to take the worst backroad route ever. It usually takes me 20-30 minutes to get to the stadium in traffic, and it took us an hour and 20. I live ITP! How does this happen?! It wasn't helping things.

But then we got in the stadium and all my stadium friends were so huggy, and I felt a little better. The Phillies were still doing BP and my brother asked who that was who kept looking up. I told him that's Cliff Lee and joked, "He knows I love his sweepy lashes so he's covering them up with those awful cataract surgery sunglasses." Brother: "How can you tell where he's looking?" Me: "That's the point of the hater blockers, Kev. So no one can't tell."

I have spent my whole life explaining things like this to him... jokes, too. He's so serious. :)

Anyway, here are some of the pictures I did get...

Why are shortstops always bffs?

Oh yeah. My tickets were nosebleeds (yay, free BravesCountryClub tix) but as Brother, Alison, and I were talking to our friends by the bullpen, we got waved down and were told to sit. So we sat. :) I mean, it's an entertaining place to sit and I love it there, but we had to move a couple of times and as I mentioned before - my pictures aren't that great. *shrug* What are you gonna do. ;)

Gas South made some HUGE donations to local charities. So nice. :)
Make sure you enlarge this one and look at the faces. I love them, and I wish this was more clear.
Nice, Meds.
Kimmie waving at everyone cheering for him.
Goooo Huddy!
This guy and his awesome intro song can go away now.
Never liked him. His bloop hit didn't help anything.
Socks UP, Joe Blanton! My fave Phillies FABF. :D
No grimacing, Huddy! ...Wait, what am I saying. It's the end of the season. They're probably all grimacing, on or off the field. Poor tired boys.
Game was going pretty well. This guy...this guy right here? Eric O'Flaherty lowered his ERA to 0.98. That's the lowest reliever ERA (with 75+ IP) since 1900. Amazeballs.
I want them to stand back-to-back. :)
My new phone wallpaper. What can I say, I like some Socks Up!
I also like how he was pants down the day before and socks up for the last game.
It's just not the same when he wears long pants.
You're welcome to hit Utley like your friend did the other day.
No one would mind. Promise. (Well, except maybe Utley...)
The Braves gave out 25,000 foam tomahawks. I guess that's a good way to try to make us do the Chop? I think the only times I chopped this season were to show a kid how to do it or imitating DLowe's special chop. (I think it's overdone, frankly. SOMEONE WALKED IN THE FOURTH INNING! START THE CHOP CHANT! ...No.)
(Irrelevant: I love the TV show "Chopped".)
I will always cheer for our relievers running in. Go, Kimmeh!
Pete Orr!! I was just lamenting I hadn't seen him all series.
I was looking over at the dugout, squinting a little.
Brother: What's going on?
Me: Nothing, just trying to see who's sitting on the cooler.
Brother: I can't tell...
Me: Oh! I can use the super stalker zoom on this camera!
[click]
Me: ALISON. Look at Gonzo sitting in DLowe's spot!
Alison: AAAAH!
(It was Larry Parrish on the cooler, if you can't see.)
SHUTTING IT DOWN, Kris Medlen. He was incredible.
*pat pat*
I like Anthony. I'll be interested to see where he is next year.
Me: Look at that WHIP!
Brother: What's WHIP, again?
Me: ...You were a pitcher.
The last at-bat of the year
Yeah.
This picture has a soundtrack.

See the losing pitcher there? I defended him to EVERYONE, telling people they need to support their team. I made jokes that the only people who clapped / cheered when he came in were his wife and I, haha. In the end, I still believe our bullpen was super-strong this year and it had an incredible amount of talent. We'll see what next year brings.
Bye boys. Heart.
I appreciate the sentiment.

Full album only has 51 pictures.

I still can't believe our 2011 season is over, but that's another story for another post. This year has been one of my favorite years ever. I love my team. ❤

Game Day Pictures: Braves vs Phillies 9-27-11

Is this not one of the cutest Jonny faces you've ever seen?!

Second game in a row with blog reader Kolbi, and she got us some embarrassingly close seats to the bullpen. I mean, CLOSE. When I sit there it's super-rare that I take pictures of things happening in the bullpen. They can see me! It's just weird.

Not only did Kolbi not have a problem with the seats, but she took a few pictures with her phone. Look how close we were, y'all.

Oh hey, Mike. Nice pose, EO.
Pretty sure they can hear us talking. Hmm.

Now I know some people buy season tickets here, or share season tickets. I can't imagine sitting here all year. I mean, y'all know I love my boys... and my friends and I did sit near the bullpen more than anywhere else this year, but... hmm. How do I word this... I don't have a problem talking to them one-on-one (they're just people!) but during games, I don't want to bother them. They're working. And it aggravates me to see people yelling into the dugout or bullpen, trying to chat them up while the games are going on. (Kinda like the grown men yelling for baseballs or the tube tops bouncing for attention down on the wall during batting practice.)

As one of my cousins said a few months ago, she believes the guys are celebrities almost as much as they are athletes. It's okay to take pictures of them - especially when they're doing cute things like wrestling - and it's okay to talk to them if they talk to you.

Personally, I'm on the introvert/extrovert borderline. I can carry on conversations with almost anyone but I don't always initiate them. I like going out occasionally, love traveling, but I'm a bit of a homebody. Anyway... I like being observant. :) So here are some pictures, with my observations / opinions / glee written as captions. Click to enlarge, as usual...

Predicting his homer later that night? :)
Constanza bopped his head and sang along to some reggaeton
Step in some gum, Huddy? What is this.
My last BP of the year, loved seeing JV flipping his glove again.
The teef are so glowy, and the socks so awesome.
I'm really gonna miss Kimmie's BP poses.
So smiley :)
Oh, he's still modeling. More pictures, yes? Yes.
EO might be onto me... ha!
"It looks good. Seriously, it does."
Hey, far away pitchers...
Wrestling!
Jonny wins!
...and picks out a kid in the stands for the ball. Aww.
I could see his calves from a million feet away!
Tongue out? Yep, this might be enough to distract me from MedSocks!
*pat pat*
(...not really)
:(
;)
That's some good company to keep, if we're talking pitching skills.
(I'm sorry, y'all know I love Cliff Lee. Heh.)
BYE BOYS FOR THE LAST TIME THIS SEASON!
For Alison. :) Also, Mr. Lee? I have no idea how you can see the girls with shades that dark. ;)
Fraternizing!
FRATERNIZING!
Mike gettin some Huggla
GO DLOWE! Some of us never stopped cheering...
This just hasn't been his year, though.
They don't always show this - I wish they would.
Mac!
Goooo Vizzy!
Two-Bit won the Tool Race again! WTG D!
Teheran! Where do you think he'll be next year?
They showed Houston winning on our Jumbotron. The stadium went nuts!
A little Bastardo for Molly. ;)
Mattay!
I can't... even...
Love you, bullpen boys. Did you notice Jonny wasn't socks up? I was horrified... but I understand if he feels he needs to change something up. *sigh*

Album.

One more game...
